Spring is nearing and it is always the most favorite season of the year. It couldn't be nicer than in Fairhope, Alabama, where thousands of beautiful flowers, including azaleas, are in full bloom. Come to Fairhope and celebrate the beginning of Spring! The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce proudly announces the 60th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival in Fairhope, which is scheduled for March 16, 17 & 18, 2012. Festival hours are 10 am - 5 pm daily and there is no admission charge.

The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center presents Giant Insects : Alabama Coast

Giant Insects will feature six oversized animatronic bugs, three giant mechanical insect heads, an insect art gallery and a live insect zoo. The exhibit will give visitors an up-close and personal look at some of life's tiniest creatures including a Chinese Praying Mantis, a Swallowtail Butterfly Caterpillar, two Rhinoceros Beetles, a Desert Locust and a Stick Insect. The robotic bugs in Giant Insects move mechanically to show their behaviors, such as the locust spreading its wings to take flight. A live bug zoo will also be featured in the exhibition, allowing guests to see the critters at their regular size. There will also be photo opportunities and many other hands-on games and activities including live insect eating contests to win prizes.

All of the parking is free and the locations are less than a five-minute ride away. The shuttle ride costs only $1.

Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The Orange Beach Festival of Art is held each year on the second week-end of March. It has been an anticipated annual event for nearly two decades and this year will be part of the state tourism department's Year of Alabama Small Towns and Downtowns. Juried artists from the region and around the nation come to display their work at the first fine art and fine craft show of the season. Located on beautiful Wolf Bay, the festival is held on the Orange Beach Arts Center's campus and the adjoining Waterfront Park. Adding to the long tradition of fine arts and fine crafts, the 2010 Festival will add four complimentary attractions. A Literary Arts Tent with house regional and celebrity authors, book readings and book signings. The new Drama and Dance Stage will see performances of theater troops and dance performances. For our youngest artists the Children's Art Alley plans more than half a dozen hands-on exciting art experiences. At the Songwriters and Musicians Stage guest will enjoy the amazing regional talent as songwriters share their songs, play and sing for everyone.

Grammy award winners Alison Krauss, John Legend and the Zac Brown Band will be among the headlining acts of this May's Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival, organizers announced Friday afternoon.

The Black Crowes, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Gov't Mule, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Matisyahu, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Ozomatli are among others who are slated to play on the festival's two surfside stages at Gulf Shores public beach, according the Friday announcment.
