Where else in the world does such a thing like throwing a dead fish happen? Nowhere, only at the Redneck Rivera on the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast. The Interstate Mullet Toss & Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party is like a flash mob on the beach where a fish throwing event breaks out, it's legendary for boozed-up southerners throwing a slippery fish across the state line. What started as just a reason to party has become one of the biggest "good ole boys" beach parties on the gulf coast. Those who participate in the Mullet Toss will throw a dead fish over the state line of Florida and Alabama to see who can throw it the farthest. People come from around the region to see what all the fuss is about at the Flora-Bama, and who know, the memories could be priceless if this is your cup-of-tea. Participants, after paying a cover-charge and $15.00 registration fee (hey, you get a mullet t-shirt), toss an actual mullet from Alabama across the state line into Florida, making this event a great excuse to have a long weekend of partying. Mullet are one of the area’s most popular fish and, due to the clean sandy bottom in the area, are quite tasty. There will be lots of activities for everyone with live entertainment and plenty of typical bar-food for when the munchies kick in. The Flora-Bama Lounge is a beach-side bar and oyster house situated on the Florida-Alabama state line.
